The Book

Enter the world of Okehaven.

Inside The Pages

A group of witches in Colonial Williamsburg weave a spell with far reaching consequences, binding the magic of the Archer line for centuries. Until today. JANIE EVANS begins her fourteenth birthday like any other day. Until a giant black cat begins following her, she discovers a mysterious room in the public library filled with ancient texts, including one open to a family tree that includes her name, and she receives an email inviting her to consider attending OKEHAVEN SCHOOL FOR MAGIC, with implicit instructions not to tell her human family anything about the magical world. Plus, the huge cat follows her home. Janie soon finds herself surrounded by mystic creatures, magical friends, and organizations with unknown motives.

Janie’s world is turned upside-down as she struggles to reconcile the fact that she is a witch. The school orientation packet provides special instructions for non-magical students which allows her to visit Okehaven, keeping the visit secret from her parents. While attending the orientation Janie finds that the magical community knows more about her heritage than Janie does with several students telling her conflicting stories about her eighteenth-century ancestor, CONSTANCE JANE ARCHER, the last Archer witch. Janie meets ALEX LAWRENCE, also from a human family, albeit a troubled one. They commit to helping each other figure out how to navigate a magical world they never knew existed.

As Janie and Alex search for answers, they uncover MAGNUM OPUS, a malignant group of dark wizards. This group’s frantic search for missing spell pages lead directly to Janie and her new friends: CORDELIA LEAR; AHANU PALLATON a Native American from the Powahatan Tribe; SALLY and JEFFERSON JENKINS, African American cousins; and TAMZIN GILFLURT, Janie’s distant cousin. Magnum Opus and their leader, PETRA GERMAIN, become increasingly violent, kidnapping and torturing several members of the magical community, burning a magical antique store, and using magic to remove secrets from the cemetery in Colonial Williamsburg during the Independence Day celebrations, killing a wizard that tries to stop them, and attacking the library and the librarian. The more Janie looks for answers, the deeper into a labyrinth of secrets, betrayal, and intrigue she travels.
